The budget for cooling the Tube network may have been slashed, but that won't affect the new air-conditioned S-stock trains, due to be deployed on the Metropolitan, Circle, H&C and District lines over the next few years.

Julian Gajewski took this excellent pic yesterday of one of the new trains being tested out near Northwick Park station. The models are scheduled to be introduced on the Metropolitan line from September, with the other lines set to be upgraded by 2013.

We took a look round a mocked-up model a couple years back. They're faster, cooler, and more spacious than the current rolling stock, and like the new Overground trains, there are no doors between carriages.

Many thanks to Julian for the pic
