Illegal Turn Fines Illegal

A motoring conundrum is currently giving TfL a headache; it appears that up to £150m in fines for moving traffic offences could be illegal due to a discrepancy between the wording on the ticket issued and the traffic law behind it. While it could be argued that if a motorist disobeys a road sign and makes an illegal turn they deserve everything they get, there's certainly a case for the opposition that if an authority wants to enforce road laws through fines, they should make sure they're also complying with the law. TfL and other London councils have certainly been quick to penalise motorists on technicalities in the past, looks like their chickens are coming home to roost. Photo by Par Fifty
