Cycling Medals From London Olympics 1948 Awarded

bike090610.jpg Whilst it's full steam ahead for 2012 and 778 days to go here's a golden nugget of Olympic history. The London "austerity games" of 1948 necessitated many imaginative low cost measures such as lighting the velodrome with spectators' car lights. Organisation was so light touch that the Belgian cycling team who romped home in the 194km road race simply packed up their kit, got on a bus and went home without realising they'd won and certainly not expecting any ceremonials. Jacques Rogge presented the 3 man team with the 52 years' belated medals last week. Read about it in John MacLeary's blog and here's a wee bit about 1908. (Image/jeremyhughes)
