STYLEist: The Rising Designer Interviews - CC Kuo

London's taste for the eclectic and avant-garde keeps it firmly at the frontiers of fashion - creating the perfect, fertile environment from which an abundance of new designers can emerge. The energy and diversity of the city has been a constant source of inspiration for generations of London-based designers and indeed, anyone interested in fashion, and this new series of STYLEist celebrates the amazing talents of the capital's up and coming style-setters.

CC graduated from Central St Martin College of Art and Design with a degree in Fashion Design with Marketing in 2006 specialising in womenswear. Her graduate collection was so highly acclaimed, it resulted in an editorial feature in Pop Magazine, styled by the legendary Katie Grand and she went on to hone her skills and knowledge with renowned ateliers Alexander McQueen, Michiko Koshino, Preen, Shizue and Margret Howell. CC set up her own label CCKUO in 2009 and is currently working on the second ready to wear collection CCKUO SS2011.

Describe your brand

CCKUO, an edgy womenswear brand based in London. Quirky, strikingly modern dresses and on-trend separates inspired by drapes and pleats. With bold use of colours and prints, the collection revolves around the ‘Mirrored’ idea of creating an illusion, with each garment having two versions - one of real drapes and pleats and the other of digital prints. The use of luxurious fabrics like silk velvet, silk satin and double crepe results in a sumptuous and covetable collection for the strong, sexy woman who appreciates luxury, sophistication and stylish design.

What does fashion mean to you?

Passion for Fashion, fashion is my dream, although it’s tough, hard work and long hours. When I see something pretty or interesting, my first reaction is thinking to turn them into fashion. It’s my part of life & interest and now it’s my career.

Who opitomises London Fashion for you?

Alexander McQueen - unique

How has London inspired you or your designs?

Everywhere, the people, the environment, the buildings, the galleries, the markets, the foods…. And I take photos anywhere and anytime.

Where do you hang out?

Oxford circus & Shoreditch, the nice cafés, tea rooms, designer boutiques, galleries, markets and so on...

What's the worst outfit you've seen someone wearing on the tube?

I believe anything can be made to look good if it's worn right and on the right person. But wearing the tights as a pair of trousers and showing the underwear line are pretty bad in my opinion.

What was the first thing you designed?

The first piece I designed and made was a swan jacket, it was the first project from CSM, inspired by swan from white lovers, the jacket is a bit crazy and funny, but I still quite like it.

Which designers inspire you?

Alexander McQueen, Preen, Viktor & Rolf & Lanvin.

Where can we buy your clothes?

AW10 collection will be sold on my website Some dresses can be made-to-order.
