From 12 until 2 today, outside Broadcasting House on Portland Place, supporters of the BBC’s 6 Music digital radio station will gather to protest against its proposed closure. The timing of this second demo is no accident, as the BBC Trust’s public consultation on the threatened cuts ends in a few days’ time. This protest promises to be bigger than the (already well-attended) previous one, with suggestions of a ‘proper’ PA system for the various DJs and bands who will be performing, as well as free cake, supposedly. The weather is looking great, so a couple of hours of good-natured protest against these poorly-justified closure threats could be entirely enjoyable.
