Yesterday afternoon we popped along to check out the colourful proposition of a purple ‘Take Back Parliament’ rally for electoral reform sharing Trafalgar Square with several troupes of Morris Dancers participating in the Westminster Day of Dance. Both groups, despite their evident surprise at the presence of the others, seemed very accommodating to each other, and the whole arrangement seemed mostly good-natured. The square’s tourists seemed no more bemused than usual.
After 45 minutes or so, the medium-sized rally left the vast expanse of Trafalgar Square for the decidedly smaller Smith Square, whereupon they immediately made the news by shouting at the Local Government Association building until a popular politician came and spoke to them. The Morris Men, on the other hand, didn't.
