Covent Garden Canvas: Get Snapping

Covent Garden Juggler.jpg Covent Garden's market building is celebrating its 180th anniversary this year and wants you to join in the merriment! In one of two, year long initiatives, Covent Garden Canvas, is inviting visitors, workers and residents of WC2, to contribute their favourite photographic images to their website.

The images can be from past and present and reflect anything from a simple scene such as dining alfresco with a friend to more arresting sights you may have happened upon whilst wriggling your way through the omni-present hoards of tourists and school kids. The aim is to build a collection of snaps that record the unique aspects of life in one of London's most public spaces. The best will be chosen to become part of a photography wall on the Piazza at the end of the year.

In addition, Covent Garden Canvas are supplying 25 disposable lomography cameras to creative people, (on which 2 Londonistas have got their snappy hands), as further documentation of this historically fascinating part of London; where Charles Dickens penned some of his finest works and Oscar Wilde was put to trial.

Throughout 2010 there'll be all kinds of celebratory exhibitions, festivals and events featuring every aspect of Covent Garden from past to present to future and including fashion, food, design and architecture. Regular visits to their website will ensure you keep well abreast of what's happening.
