For Sale: One City Epitome

tower 42.jpg Tower 42, that 80s architectural icon of money and power, is up for sale for a cool £300m. The 600ft tower, which was the venue for Shelter's 2010 Vertical Rush, could be the subject of the biggest deal in the Square Mile this year and represent a recovering commercial property market in London. Its original status as the tallest tower in the city has since been eclipsed, but we reckon owning even the fifth tallest tower still gives one pretty good views. The price tag doesn't quite match up to the £600m price paid for the Gherkin in 2007, but if you're after an iconic building and have a spare £40m you could always make an offer on the Liberty building and the Christopher Wren church was a snip at £4.5m.
