Sleeping Rough In The Snow

lovingthesnow.jpg It's common to think more about homelessness around Christmas but the seasonal centres have closed now and the city is deep in the cold snap. We might be alternately rejoicing in 'snow days' and bemoaning the effects of the white stuff but sleeping rough is unimaginable to most of us. BBC London have been out to speak to those who face it every day.

Temperatures have dropped so low for so many days that special measures have kicked in, obliging local government to provide emergency shelters, like this one run by St Mungo's in an empty office in Battersea.

How can you help? Your money please. Centrepoint and Crisis are both running winter campaigns and St Mungos needs not only your cash but warm coats and good shoes.

Finally, this week Shelter launched Vertical Rush 2010. You may remember our efforts scaling Tower 42 last year. We're back with a brand new team this year and we're aiming to top our fundraising target. Watch this space for more news soon.
