London Shh: A Guide To The Capital's Small House Museums

burghhouse.jpg What have George Handel, William Morris, Sigmund Freud, Samuel Johnson and Benjamin Franklin all got in common? That's right. Not one of them owned an iPhone. By a spooky coincidence, they also have small museums devoted to them in London.

A new site, London Shh, brings together these 'small historic houses', along with Burgh House (pictured), an early Georgian pile that serves as Hampstead's local museum. An events calendar, map and newsletter help pimp these six local treasures to a wider audience.

The site is a little limited at the moment, with no regular news, blog or Twitter feed (that we can find) to keep people coming back. However, this strength-in-numbers approach to promoting these smashing venues is a laudable idea, and one that might be expanded to cover the many similar museums (Charles Dickens, Dennis Severs, Thomas Carlyle, etc.) about town.
