Peace Comes to Lewisham

1407.tutu.jpg Well as far as we know it's not actually a war torn borough. But today saw the official opening of the Chinbrook Meadow Peace Garden in Grove Park. This is a lovely, satisfying tale of nice people spending money on nice things to celebrate nice people. Opera singer Suzannah Clarke discovered that Archbishop Desmond Tutu was a fomer resident of her house (in the 70s), and decided to invite him for tea. As you do. He accepted, and so she set about finding a way of honouring him. After a bit of humming and hah-ing she applied for lottery funding, and with the help of TV gardener Chris Beardshaw set about designing a peace garden. The Archbishop attended today's ceremony, along with Terry Waite. Let this be an inspiration to all of us: don't just think stuff, go ahead a make it happen. (Image/World Economic Forum)
