Zimbabwe's Prime Minister Receives Cold Reception at Southwark Cathedral

Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe's PM and president of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), faced crowds of protestors yesterday at Southwark Cathedral. Tsvangirai, who is currently on the last leg of his first tour abroad as PM, has been aiming to promote the image of a new and more democratic Zimbabwe. His hopes to receive a warm welcome in London were seriously disappointed as Zimbabwean exiles booed him at the Cathedral after he urged them to return to Zimbabwe. He then cut his appearance 45 minutes short. Many of the exiles have criticized the PM for his continued support of Robert Mugabe. The ordeal happened to coincide with the end of Refugee Week, which further reminds us of the strong voice held by many of London's refugee communities. (image/ Daniel_C_C)
