Not content with extortionate fares, rubbish services and Byzantine ticketing rules, train companies are looking for new ways to twist yet more money out of their long-suffering passengers with a £2.50 charge to guarantee a seat. Surely a fare increase by any other name? Not according to National Express who claim they merely want to ‘improve the on-board environment for customers’. We think customers would be happier with a decent sandwich and reasonable ticket prices but maybe that’s just us.
