Savoy Swill-Power

0405.savoy.jpg Londonist really hearts the Savoy. Many (many) years ago, when this Londonista was a carefree social butterfly (well, a student anyway), she went to a ball there. Not possessing the wherewithal to stay at the iconic Strand building, she thought she'd just chill in the lounge before catching the milk train home. Come 3am, when the night manager had gone past her corner chair for the third time, she was getting decidedly nervous. But this was the Savoy. By 6am, when the first train was scheduled, she had had a guided tour of the kitchens, breakfast with the staff, and had been presented with a book on the history of the hotel. One of the best London nights ever. Totally their fault she went into catering. Well, the place still rocks, and as it nears the end of its (probably awfully expensive) refurbishment, news reaches us of its shiny new green credentials. Ten percent of the bedrooms are to be powered by slops. Leftovers. This is really very cool. Can't wait to see what else they've been up to. Although we still ain't got the readies to move in, as such. (Image//Sizemore/)
