Jeff Soto's Inland Empire

Big time Californian pop artist Jeff Soto’s first solo UK exhibition, Inland Empire, was rolled out last night at Stolenspace gallery. The show, which runs until the 7th of June, features more than twenty new paintings on wood panel and paper, as well as large-scale outdoor installations. Inland Empire also offers the chance to pick up a limited edition hand pulled screen print by Soto along with copies of his newly published book Storm Clouds.

This “politically charged” exhibition focuses on the themes of recession and the seemingly irreversible damage humans are causing to the planet. Despite the doom and gloom, Soto’s works aren’t without vibrant glimmers of hope, a keen perception of the everyday beauty at hand and a fuzzy, surreally organic tone that suggests that ... well maybe just maybe ... things might turn out alright.

Stolenspace is located at Dray Walk in the Old Truman Brewery and is open Tuesday through Sunday 11am - 7pm. Visit the Stolenspace website for details.
