Destroyer To Guard Olympics?

Lusty.jpg HMS Illustrious has barely left our shores than we have more big ship news. It's possible the Olympics could be guarded by one of the new Type 45 Destroyers, moored at Sheerness, to shoot down any 9/11 style terrorist attacks. A couple of problems though: the destroyer project is massively delayed already and the Principal AntiAir Missile System (or "Sea Viper") isn't expected to be fully functioning by the time HMS Daring (where do they get these names?) enters service in late 2010. Any bets on it not being ready in 2012? More to the point: if we're getting naval protection, just how scary are these Games going to be?! (Image / James Merry)
