Six Wives to Headline at Hampton Court

1004.hampton.jpg RIght, so we all know that this is Big Henry year. Five hundred years since the beefy one acceded to the British throne. There's stuff going on all over the place. This very weekend sees Hampton Court puffed and ruffed with pride over its restored Tudor tapestries, which are a highlight of their rolling programme of Henry-abilia this year. But BEST OF THE LOT, and clearly just to annoy that nice Mr. Starkey, it is, in Londonist's humble opinion, the ex-wives club that are the stars. For our favourite blonde-of-godlike-genius, Rick Wakeman, is bringing a full rock Tudor performance of his cult 70s album, the Six Wives of Henry VIII, home where it belongs. There will be two open air perfomances of the oeuvre on May 1st and 2nd (but as we can't go on those days it would be really really nice if the organisers could do it again later in the season). This will truly be quite something: we recommend that you go.
