Preview: Breakin' Convention

Flawless270409.jpg In 2004, Breakin' Convention was doing just that, taking over London's Dance House, Sadlers Wells, for a whole weekend and setting it alight with hip hop dance and music, bringing a whole new crowd through the big glass doors, ready to whoop and holler at Jonzi D's radical festival. Five years on and they've not only got their own spanking new website but a UK tour lined up on top of the hugely popular Bank Holiday weekend takeover of Sadlers stretching to a full 5 days of hip hop performance, workshops and partying.

The festival is bursting with fresh talent and internationally acclaimed artists. The youth 'run tings' on Thursday, Friday is hip hop history film night with a rare screening The Rock then it all kicks off: Saturday, Sunday and Monday with daytime workshops on everything from Bboying, turntablism to popping and locking and live "aerosol art" (graf, right?). The performances start at 4pm each day. Look out for Zoo Nation (famous for featuring at the Beijing Olympic closing ceremony and West End show, Into the Hoods) and a duet from North London boys, Flawless, whose group was recently given a standing ovation by Simon Cowell and co on Britain's Got Talent for their gob smackingly good performance which thoroughly backed up their choice of name. Finally, we fancy Mr Wiggles, starring in the closing show on Monday night, partly for his funny name but also as he's billed as "master of popping, boogaloo and tutting". Word.
