...shrieks the frontpage headline of the Hackney Gazette. A new play at Arcola, Dalston, is accused of cashing in on the tragic and horrifying death of Jamie Bulger and opening fresh wounds for his family by the organisation Mothers Against Murder and Aggression. Forgive us for just a sec while we stitch our sides back together at the notion that a play might make money at Arcola - wonderful place though it is, tis not the West End stage, if money is even made there. Then, consider the complete lack of consideration that the discreetly advertised play (plain white poster pictured) might, through artistic representation, explore the issues behind the horrific killing and endeavour to ask questions and make a statement about a society where children torture and kill another child. We'll be at the opening of Monsters to judge for ourselves.
