Shunt To Expand: Going Beyond The Vaults

Fans of those deliriously oddball performance / art / lounge / bar persons who are Shunt will be pleased to hear that they Shunt are expanding.

While their current home in the Shunt Vaults beneath London Bridge station has served them and us very well since they took up residence in 2004, the time has come to step up their operations. Shunt Lounge is popular as ever as a drinking with performance art programme but the company needs a separate space for the sprawling site-specific performances that originally made their name.

And lo, as if by magic or some nifty installation art trickery, they have secured a one-year lease on a former cigar warehouse just across the road on Bermondsey Street. Shows are planned for Tuesday to Saturday nights, meaning dual Shunty goodness throughout the week. The company could take over the London Bridge area entirely if they are successful in their bid to occupy a new cultural space in Potters Field next to Tower Bridge. We say: Bring. It. On. And so Southwark will become Shuntwark, and those in pursuit of experimental site-specific art and performance will rejoice!
