London’s Cutest Refugees?

1702.vole.jpg Mr. Voley is going on a journey. To the Wild Wood. Literally. We are talking about water voles: there are up to 30 of them quite happily ensconced in sludge tanks (‘O bliss! O poop-poop! O my! O my!’) and marshes adjacent to Crossness Sewage Treatment Works. And as the plant is to be expanded, the little critters are being rehoused (if they can catch them) - at Wildwood breeding centre in Herne Bay. It may be more than whisker away from home, but it is hoped that they will actually get on and breed during their anticipated two years away. We have to admit we were especially tickled by the vision of water officials crawling through the mire with pots of apple and carrot. Send us a postcard, Voley.
