Santa’s Lap: Teatime for London

Every day this month the Londonist team will be pointing you in the direction of a Christmas present that (with a bit of luck) you won't already have on your list. Climb up onto our collective lap and we'll see what we can move from our sack to your stockings...

Ask any self-respecting tourist what souvenirs they are taking home from London and the chances are that somewhere in their bags is a caddy of Ahmad Tea. You know – the ones featuring those cheesey Victorian street scenes, Thames vistas, and endless artists’ impressions of the Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge.

What a lot of people don’t know is that the tea is actually jolly good. We mean, really nice. Top notch. Of course there are a lot of different blends from which to choose – they do green or black, fruity and herby, bagged and tagged, or loose and leafy. Londonist’s favourite bloggers brew is something called English Afternoon: enough bergamot in it to put a smile on our face, and enough oomph to sustain the addition of milk. You could do a lot worse than to pop a caddy in your favourite’s stockings.

And because the Ahmad people are a happy brewed, they have given us three tea box sets to give away…. You will be able to start your new year all perky and anti-oxidised. The seventh, eighth and ninth readers to e-mail us their addresses to londonist-at-gmail.com are the lucky winners. The goodies will be dispatched at the beginning of January, so if you do win, don’t go molesting your postman until then.
