Christmas is coming a bit early for fans of folk music. This Saturday at the Southbank Centre, John McCusker will bring his assembled band of merry minstrels to the London stop of the Under One Sky tour. The night is a celebration of folk music in Britain today presented by the Scots fiddler.

He's in good company, too. Providing vocals for the evening will be John Tams, Roddy Woomble (lead singer of Idlewild who has also turned his hand at a solo folk project), Jim Causley and Julie Fowlis (whom we had the pleasure of seeing at Rogue's Gallery back in July).

Joining McCusker in the arrangements will be Emma Reid on violin, this year's BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards' Folk Musician of the year Andy Cutting on accordion, bass from Ewen Vernal, Iain MacDonald on bagpipes and flute, James Mackintosh covering percussion, and more guitars from better-known-for-his-rock-works Graham Coxon.

The stellar line-up should bring a truly unique experience. And can we just mention how excited we are about all that accordion?

John McCusker's Under One Sky: 6 December, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre. 7.30pm. Tickets are £17.50 and £20, with limited 50% off for concessions. For more information, visit the Southbank Centre online.
