Calling all weirdy beardies: beat the X-Factor hangover with a folk cure. Friday night at the King's Head in Crouch End is the return of Folk Idol:The Beard Factor, where contestants will strut their stuff with the hopes of achieving fame, folk, and facial hair. Heavyweights of the folk world will be on hand to judge, including Froots editor Ian Anderson, PR extraordinaire Harriet Sims and singer Jim Morrison (not the dead one), who may or may not sing.

Contestants will perform folk classics and be judged on their song choice, accuracy, arrangement, and beard (which, as evidenced by last year's winner, John Smith, doesn't have to be organically produced). What better antidote to the Christmas Number 1?

Folk Idol: The Beard Factor - Friday 19 December, 7.30pm. The King's Head Downstairs. Tickets are £8. For more information, visit http://www.downstairsatthekingshead.com/
