Genteel Ealing witnessed the latest battle over the Arcadia redevelopment last night as the Council approved the project. Sited between the Broadway and Haven Green it will create 577 homes, 40 shops, two new public squares and a transport interchange. Controversy raged over the original plans that included a 40 storey tower (40! The Cheesegrater and Heron Tower aren't much bigger) but developer Glenkerrin came back with heavily revised proposals which are apparently more to (most) people's taste. Building work won't start for another few years but it looks like the face of Ealing is changing forever.
