It's always nice to keep up with new developments in the performing arts and this is good news for new theatre: there's going to be a new venue above The Stag pub in Victoria. And it's going to focus on new gay writing, which is handy as the pub is a big rainbow mirage tucked away in a back street between Billy Elliot and the Cardinal Place shopping centre.
Shameless Theatre Company are going to take over the space above the pub that dares wear its colours on its sleeve / pub exterior and will become Above The Stag Theatre. We're looking forward to what looks like a cracking inaugural programme: while coachloads of festive dinner, theatre, hotel package tours squash themselves into Billy Elliot or Wicked nearby, there'll be a male burlesque show above The Stag as a very alternative alternative. American Briefs, a series of short plays by US-based writers will open the new theatre space and the be the first production for Above The Stag Theatre, starting 28 October. Watch this space - with pride!
