BMX Hits Bushey Park

On the 20th and 21st August BMX makes its debut as an Olympic sport.

Expect to see a sudden spike in interest and profile in BMX as a result - it is already establishing itself as a global sport that's particularly attractive to young people untouched by the more mainstream alternatives.

Britain's own Shanaze Reade is our great hope for the first Olympic Gold in this sport, and as she's reigning world champion she therefore must be hot favourite to win some heavy metal for us as part of Team GB.

Back in London, a one-off event in Bushey Park to promote the council's "Be There. Do It" campaign went down a storm with kids and parents alike, and has sparked calls for new permanent facilities in the area. If they get this right, we could see the next 'Speedy Ready' coming from within our city boundaries. And wouldn't that be a great legacy for London 2012?
