To Cut A Long Story Short

About 18 months ago a band called Cazals had one spiky indie hit that we loved playing dancing to in the indie discos. It was called Poor Innocent Boy and then we never heard anything about them again. Friends with Doherty (boo) and Bloc Party (woo), we forgot about them entirely until an email appeared telling us they were supporting the mighty Daft Punk in Japan this week.

Rather than just wallowing in indie obscurity it seems their missing period can be attributed to their recent signing to Kitsune. Their new single is a cover of Spandau Ballet's To Cut A Long Story Short (out Dec 17). This sounds like a terrible concept but it's surprisingly good, making the 1980 hit sound like something fresh and new in 2007. Maybe it's just the strength of the original songwriting as it doesn't really sound that much different from the original but this news is making us really anticipate the Cazals album "What Of Our Future" which is due in March 2008.

If you want to catch them live then get your skates on as they'll be playing two gigs tonight. The first is at the briliantly named Under The Westway venue supported by The Idle Lovers (£7 from 8 - 1) and then they'll be hotfooting it over to Durrr @ The End for a performance at about 1am.
