In addition to being the mad mastermind behind one of the best albums of the year so far, Dan Deacon is also the hardest working freak in the business. While even after witnessing his live performance and listening to his record numerous times, we're still not exactly sure what that business is, we do know it involves whimsical pop sensibilities battling against an impressive array of twisted electronics. And countdowns. Dan likes counting.
Amidst the pitch-bending vocoder mayhem, classic rock and roll melodies ride along the surface, making Deacon more sonically descendent from Daniel Miller's Silicon Teens than Devo, to whom he's often compared. Where Ohio's flowerpot-headed quartet deals in kitsch, Deacon's songs carry a light-hearted, kind honesty with them. There's no ironic posturing here, Dan's just truly a goofy far-out guy with a penchant for wreaking havoc on circuitry and ringleading a room into having some fun.
To support his brilliant Carpark Records release "Spiderman of the Rings", Dan's bringing his ever-travelling one man circus on a tour of the UK and Ireland.
