There's a late addition to our ticket alert this week with the news that The White Stripes will be playing a special one off show in South East London next week.

With their new single "Icky Thump" about to hit the charts on Sunday, the pair will be playing the old-time Rivoli Ballroom in Lewisham on Tuesday. We've got to be honest, the Rivioli is a new one on us but it's an old ballroom with its original decor in place from the 1950s so it sounds kind of special. The web is a bit devoid of information about it, so if you've got any old stories, we'd love to hear them!

Tickets go on sale on Monday and proceeds from the show will go to the Chelsea Pensioners Appeal.

More on the Rivioli at Cinema Treasures.

Hi Londonist / Talia

In response to your query:

The Rivoli Ballroom is fairly well known on the dress-up scene. It was used by the much-missed Club Montepulciano (founders of South London Pacific) for their wonderful balls, some time before London's burlesque movement got kick-started - check out some of the photos on their gallery page.

It's also the home of the Jive Party swing dance classes on a Saturday night - see their site for photos and details - this event was listed number 12 in Time Out's 101 more things to do before you leave London.

But TV fans might recognise the venue from its many appearances in adverts and music videos - check out this film location company that has lots of photos of the Rivoli.

In particular the Rivoli was used for S Club 7's seminal music video masterpies Don't Stop Movin' - so clearly the White Stripes are following in some important footsteps.

The Rivoli Ballroom is stunningly atmospheric, if a little painfully smoky when the night gets going. The only downside is its location - in Crofton Park, SE4, which is further away from the centre of London than the postcode suggests! There are two trains an hour from Blackfriars that go directly to Crofton Park, a bus that goes to and from Holborn and another bus that goes to and from St Paul's.

All the best
