In the end, the most striking feature from last night's elections across the country (outside of London) was the lunacy of rubbish electoral systems discarding 100,000 votes due to confused voters. That would obviously never happen in London.
Fortunately, no such problem in the much-anticipated results of our own home-grown little Westminster by-election. The Tory vote easily doubled all the other parties put together. In doing so, Cameron's Conservatives crushed efforts to promote former british pop stars into local government by relegating Labour to a slightly embarrassed third place. At least David Rowntree beat UKIP, who are rumoured to be considering entering Celine Dion or Heather Mills next time.
