Best Cycling Story Ever?

If you're a regular Londonist reader you might have picked up on the fact that some of us are keen cyclists.

Now unfortunately cycling has come in for a bit of stick recently, what with the Floyd Landis scandal and the recent safety concerns during the Tour of Britian.

However, something happened on Friday night which restored our faith in cyclists everywhere:

A man cycled himself to hospital after being shot in the knee, police have said.

The 20-year-old was riding through Myatts Field Estate in Brixton, south London, last Friday night when he felt a sharp pain in his left knee.

Realising he had been shot, he cycled to a south London hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses and describe the victim as black and wearing a blue and white top and jeans.

Good God! We have trouble getting on our bike if it's a bit drizzly outside, never mind being shot in the knee. Who was this guy? John J. Rambo?

Ok, the story doesn't do much for people's perception of Brixton, but this guy is our new hero and if he's up for doing an interview, we'll do our best to get one out of him.

P.S. Yes, we know Streethawk was a motorbike but we couldn't think of any cool, armed fictional cyclists.
