Under The Influence of Giants

Well we did as we said and went to see Shiny Toy Guns last night at Barfly. Now we take back everything we said about The Modern and Linken Park, and instead realise that STG fall much closer to Panic At The Disco territory. Yes, boys and girls, this is long, drawn out, hysterically over the top emo, but it just so happens to have whacking great dollops of pop in the middle of it as well.

Anyway some of us were much more taken with the support act - Under The Influence Of Giants. Falling somewhere between the soulful rock of RHCP and the falsetto hooks of Scissor Sisters, Aaron Bruno (vocals/lyrics), Jamin Wilcox (drummer, keyboards), Drew Stewart (guitars), and David Amezcua make up this LA group who've just been signed to Island Records. While Aaron prances round the stage in his best lycra armgear, David Amezcua is a bassist who's been studying the always-pleasing art of looking like Jack Black. Good, fun and enjoyable, ditch the dull as a slice of toast without butter The Feeling, and jump onto the Under The Influence of Giants ship instead of you're looking for a gem of laid-back pop.

Handily for you they are playing in London again tonight - this time at Madame Jo Jo's as part of the electroclash Glitz clubnight. Opening at 9pm, it's £6 and you can get full details here.
