Ming Campbell Elected Leader

Londonist must put its hands up and admit to being entirely wrong about the result of the Liberal Democrat leadership election. We thought Huhne would pip it marginally. The gossip in the House of Commons Members' Tea Room was that Huhne had won it, right up until 2:45 this afternoon, when the tide turned towards Ming. In fact, after Simon Hughes was eliminated from the competition, and the second preferences of his supporters were taken, Campbell won clearly, with 57% of the vote! We are clearly no match for Mystic Meg when it comes to political predictions. See the full results of the election here.

Jowell Cleared of Wrongdoing

Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has been cleared of allegations of breaking the ministerial code à la Blunkett, when declaring her husband's salary. Whilst it looks like Ms. Jowell has weathered the storm, husband David Mills is far from out of the woods, with allegations of bribe-taking from dodgy Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi.
