On the eve of the 6 Nations tournament, we are poised to witness five weekends of world-class international rugby union. With each the six best teams in the Northern Hemisphere playing against the other five, this is a true indicator of the state of the sport in this part of the world.

Will England’s midfield constipation thwart their strength up-front? Will the stunning success of Wales last year be heralded as a 'false dawn' as they are crippled by injuries? Will France show enough consistency to lift the trophy that everyone knows they are capable of claiming? Will Ireland and Scotland realise their full potential, or end-up fighting each other for the wooden spoon? And how will Italy manage to surprise us this year?

Who knows? (Our money is on France.)

However, more importantly, how are Londoners going to watch the matches? At home? In the pub? Which pubs? Are any of us lucky enough to have tickets to see the matches live?

And how are the eight London-based players involved in the tournament going to fare? Will they be heroes, clinching the tournament with a last gasp try in injury-time? Or zeroes, spending the whole tournament on the bench (or physio’s table)?

Over the next few weeks, your Londonist will be keeping you informed on all these important matters. Stay tuned…
