With four of our favourite new bands in town this week, it is a grand time to be heading out and checking out some live music.

Friday: Until we get our own band together, Fuckshovel remain the best named band in Britain. And other places. We'll be bringing you more from the 'shovel next month but in the meantime come on down to The Peel in Kingston for about 7.30 for a couple of jars, some splendid punk metal, Cradle of Filth's ex drummer, some monster merchandise (see right) and a really tall guitarist. They do have one of the messiest myspace sites we've ever seen though.

Sunday: gives you a double dose of acoustica. Acclaimed Aussie shoegazers The Morning After Girls play an acoustic set with The Heights at the Barfly, £5 advance, doors Midday. Lunatic genius Lupen Crook hits the Luminaire stage at 8.45, supporting Sol Seppy and Mr Fogg, leaving enough time to spend the rest of the night howling at the moon.

Monday: Although already sold out, it's worth looking out for tickets for Boy Kill Boy at King's College Union. We wrote some stuff about them here.

TuesdayIf you fancy some young fresh faced Icelandic kids playing some delightfully OTT pomp metal then you need to be at the Barfly at 8 for Sign.

Alternatively there's the most excellent Four Day Hombre playing the Orchard Night at the Notting Hill Arts Club, 8pm doors. Drop back tomorrow for a catch up with Leeds's finest.

Wednesday: Lastly (ironically we suppose) but by no means leastly are Last Man Standing back at Madame JoJos with guests Baxter Dury and Sean O'Hagan of the High Llamas in support. We'll be talking to Max from LMS next week, so watch this space.

So that's just some of what's coming your way both from ourselves and our bands over the next week. See you back here in seven.
