We like to think we're pretty handy in the kitchen here at Londonist. Ok, so we're not a bunch of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstalls, running around slaughtering lambs and pefecting our organic nettle soup, and we will admit to having the odd takeaway number stored on our mobiles... but we like to think we're doing the best we can with the resources available.

There are however certain gaps in our collective culinary knowledge bank, so when someone comes along and offers to help us fill those gaps, and do our bit of charity...and we get to eat nice food into the bargain. Well, we're not going to say no are we?

As part of Children in Need the Wine & Food Academy and Cookery School on Little Portland Street is opening its doors all day tomorrow for a 'pasta and gelato day' i.e. they're going to teach people how to make ice cream and pasta.

What a great idea! Two great comfort-food staples that almost no one has a clue how to make themselves.

So for £20 you can turn up at the school and join in one of the informal teaching sessions where Cookery School tutors will be on hand to show you the ropes alongside visiting chefs and kitchen staff from some of the best London restaurants.

You don't have to have any cooking experiece, all the ingredients and kitchen equipment has been donated by local businesses, and you don't even have book a slot in advance. So what's stopping you?

The pasta and gelato day will be held at Cookery School's premises in Little Portland Street,. It will open at 10.00am and end at 8.00pm. Ticket prices are £20 per person to be paid at the door.
