If you're stuck for something to do this Friday afternoon then you should maybe think about getting down to St James' Square for a bit of free speech and a picnic. It doesn't get any more British than that does it?

New Speakers' Corner comes courtesy of the ICA and Hames Levack ('the art gallery without a fixed venue') who had the idea of giving Joe Public the chance to get on their soapbox and say their piece without having to compete with the 'professionals' over in Hyde Park.

For the past few weeks people have been emailing the ICA with outlines of something they'd like to speak about, and the successful applicants have been alloted 15 minute time slots somewhere between 11am and 4pm on 12 August.

You can check the ICA website from Thursday to get a better idea of the line-up and see if there's anything worth making the trip for, but we're pretty sure there will be.

(Oh yeah, the picnic bit: hampers are available from £7.50 to £12.50 per person and you can email [email protected] for menus and to order.)
