Champions League Draw
champs_league_trophy.JPG

Those happy dancing crusty old types at UEFA have just finished playing with their balls and have made the draw for this year's soooper-dooper Champions League group stages. Arsenal were top seeds in their group and have drawn Ajax, Sparta Prague and Thun (bless you). They should walk that....probably.

Chelsea, much to the chagrin of their handsome Portugeuse Overlord, were in the second pot of balls and are thus in the same group as Liverpool, along with Anderlecht and Betis. GROUP OF DEATH ALERT!!!

Elsewhere, Manchester United are up against Villareal, Lille and Benfica.

Expect plenty of the following : a focus on Dennis Bergkamp playing against Ajax - will he purchase enough Ginsters and pornography to get him through that road trip to Amsterdam? Replay after replay of that debatable goal in last year's Chelsea/Pool semi and a poor showing from Rangers (going out on a limb there we know).

Head here for details of all the groups and here if you fancy a flutter. Londonist's dark horses in a Porto or Liverpool stylee are Schalke , but this year we fancy one of the big boys to re-assert some authority, could be Chelsea, but we're going to back Barcelona. Shame on us.

Good result for Arsenal, hopefully we will have some Thun (geddit?) with that team, I have never heard of them, looking forward to the Chelsea-L'Pool encounters, there will be no love lost there!

Thun is pronounced "toon", I think. It's in Switzerland

So you could make a joke about the toon army getting into Europe. Or perhaps not.

Shows how much i know!

Go Chelsea!
