Tony Blair has apparently "thrown his support" behind London's St Patrick's Day parade, despite the fact that the Saw Doctors are playing and it's taking place this Sunday, a good four days before St Patrick's Day.

Tony is quoted as saying:

"This wonderful event has now become a fixture in the city's calendar, reflecting the enormous contribution of the Irish community in London over centuries, as well as their current and continuing achievements."

We can't say the London Paddy's Day parade has ever really registered with us before (and looking at the photos from previous years we can kind of see why) but Ken is promising that this year's will be "bigger and better", and will rival the celebrations in "Dublin, New York and Chicago".

London St Patrick's Day parade better than the one in Ireland? Yeah right.

You can find out all the details of the march and the accompanying events (yes, even the Saw Doctors) at the official site.

Londonist's favourite fact: London’s Irish community is the "largest minority group" in London.
