Meltdown 2005

In 2003 it was Lee Scratch Perry, and in 2004 Morrissey decided to come out of hiding to do it, so everyone was pretty excited to see who was going to be curating this year's Meltdown festival at the Royal Festival Hall.

And we haven't been disappointed. For 2005 the RFH have managed to draw out another famously reclusive rock icon: Patti Smith.

The Guardian reported yesterday that "the godmother of punk rock" will be directing the 13th Meltdown this summer.

Smith hasn't said much about what she's planning yet but she is quoted as saying: "I want to touch on all aspects of our culture, perhaps with readings from Genet, and I have an idea for Jeremy Irons to read Proust."

Irons reads Proust? Well, it will be 'interesting' if nothing else.

No details on acts or tickets yet at the RFH site but we'll keep an eye out for you.
