In an effort to counter high levels of street crime the Watford Pubwatch scheme is now escorting pub patrons to their car, taxi or other destination. It's been running for two months and is now due to be expanded.
Pubwatch is community based initative designed to bring Licensees together to combat crime and increase communication, and according to the Met, "Police statistics show a significant decrease in violent offenders in pubs where Pubwatch is in operation".
As possible changes to licensing laws are raised once again it's good to see some work that may go some way to convince naysayers that having a drink in a pub after 11pm won't automatically turn London into one big drunken brawl, like most of continental Europe.
