A Bit Louder In The Peanut Gallery Please

shehateme.jpgAlthough there are still a few days before Sunday, Londonist could not resist informing our readers of what could be a potentially riotous event. This Sunday at 9:00 pm, the Curzon Soho (a Londonist favorite) will be showing She Hate Me, Spike Lee’s most recent movie. Now why is it you ask that we mention this? Because this is no ordinary screening, it is the first Curzon Boo-A-Long(and once you hear the storyline you will understand why they chose this particular film.)

According to our favorite movie database IMDB She Hate Me goes a little something like this,

“Harvard-educated biotech executive John Henry Jack Armstrong gets fired when he informs on his bosses, launching an investigation into their business dealings by the Securities & Exchange Commission. Branded a whistle-blower and therefore unemployable, Jack desperately needs to make a living. When his former girlfriend Fatima, a high powered businesswoman—and now a lesbian—offers him cash to impregnate her and her new girlfriend Alex, Jack is persuaded by the chance to make easy money. Word spreads and soon Jack is in the baby-making business at $10,000 a try. Lesbians with a desire for motherhood and the cash to spare are lining up to seek his services. But, between the attempts by his former employers to frame him for security fraud and his dubious fathering activities, Jack finds his life, all at once, becoming very complicated.”

Needless to say bring your cowbells, noisemakers, pots and pans, and wit with you if you decide to attend. Although we are still sceptical about paying to see a bad movie on purpose, there is something to be said for actually being allowed to make fun of a film while its showing instead of sharing your thoughts as the credits roll. A Londonist suggestion: just pop over from Chinatown once the Chinese New Year Festivities have ended and have yourself a good heckle or two at someone else’s expense, namely Spike Lee.
