Nanny State

Yes, it's another of those 'People in London pay more for stuff than people who don't live in London' stories, that the press never seem to tire of.

This time it's nannies who are sucking our wallets dry: the revelation being that families in the capital who employ a daytime nanny are paying an average of £27,000 a year.

The survey, conducted on behalf of Nannytax ('Payroll plus for parent and nannies') and Nursery World ('the best nursery publiction in the world') determined that the cost of nannies is £19,355 in other cities and towns and £18,939 in "rural areas"

Nannytax adds, "The modern day Mary Poppins is no longer simply the preserve of the rich."

Well if she could sing, fly, tidy a room with a click of her fingers and produce lampstands from carpet bags we wouldn’t mind paying nearly thirty grand for her services...but that's not really going to happen now is it.
