Pete Doherty apparently turned up at the XFM Winter Wonderland last night and by all accounts, the word 'shambles' was entirely appropriate. If you'd rather not feel like an ambulance-chaser when watching a band on stage, try this lot:
Londonist favourites The Pipettes play The Eye in Stoke Newington High Street from 9pm. They're be joined by Vincent Vincent and the Villains.
The highly-recommended (by us) Thread (right) play POP (off Soho Square, Tottenham Court Road). They're on stage at 8.30pm.
Redjetson play On the Rocks (Shoreditch)
Brave New Ideas #10 (93ft East, Brick Lane, E1) is Drowned in Sounds' showcase for new bands. It happens the first Thursday of every month, but don't worry, we'll usually remind you.
Entry is a bargainous £3 if you email email@example.com
On the bill are:
Cherubs ("Suss of interpol, tunes of Razorlight")
Kapowski ("Like Weezer making sleepy-pop")
Termites ("Eccentric Bristolians")
More information about the bands and the gig itself can be found in the article on Drowned In Sound.
Drowned in Sound host their Winter Warmer BBQ at The Windmill. For your £4 entry fee, you get free food (including veggie stuff, which might actually be safer if the barbecue skills on show are anything like ours) and you get to see lots of bands, the first of whom are onstage at 5pm. Sounds pretty good to us. More information available by clicking the link we provided above.
To get your gig or event listed or reviewed please contact us.
We're more likely to list bands we've heard, so if you're able to send us anything, do get in touch and we'll get back to you with further contact details.
