See A Mail Coach Ride Through London

In a scene straight out of a Dickens novel — on 18 June, a horse drawn mail coach will depart from the George Inn, Southwark, and make a one-mile journey across London Bridge, through the City and into Guildhall Yard.

Here, it'll be in good company with a host of vintage Royal Mail vehicles including vans, motorbikes and a car from the Mail Rail.

It's all part of the Royal Mail's 500 year anniversary of the postal services, which also features walking tours of the area, taking in the site of the first postal buildings in London as well as Postman's Park.

Watch out for an important person following the mail coach on its short journey — this is the final leg of postman Mark Penfold's 500-mile walk from Edinburgh to London, as he raises money for The Lily Foundation.

The mail coach departs The George Inn, Borough High Street at around 11am on 18 June, and should arrive at about midday, staying till 2pm. The vintage vehicles are on show from 11am-5pm. The event is free, although donations are welcome for the walking tours.
