After the daily nine-to-five slog, many of us can't wait to hit the dance floor at the weekend. But then why should we have to wait that long at all?

Debuting this Wednesday, Week Night Dance Club does what it says on the tin, bringing the silliness and fun of a 2am Saturday morning dance floor to a 7pm week night' (minus the spilled drinks, sticky floors and irritated neighbours).

Katie McPhee and her co-organiser Jess Nicks were inspired by the colourful, full-on dance environment that you find at a festival or club night. "We think [this] should be readily available, mid-week, after work, when that boost of fun is most needed,” says the organiser.

McPhee hopes her weekday raves will appeal to dance floor-loving Londoners of all ages. "There’s no specific dress code, although there will be a fancy dress contingent," she says. Think retro 1980s workout gear, leg warmers and silly accessories.

As it’s a weekday there’s no need to go OTT on the drinks: “POP's got a range of great cocktails, wine and beer, so people are welcome do drink," says Katie, "but getting wasted is optional rather than obligatory. The focus is on the dancing.”

On the inaugural night DJs Pimsoul and Dan Harder will be providing a soundtrack of disco and house alongside strong visuals courtesy of Beetroot. So what are you waiting for? Grab your leotard, practice your moves and meet fellow shape throwers. We'll see you on the dance floor.

Week Night Dance Club takes place at POP Brixton on 16 September, 7pm-11pm, early bird tickets have sold out but there are still some advance tickets left snap up yours before they go as it will be more on the door!
