Barking Mad: Steak Restaurant Launches Brunch For Dogs

Bethnal Green has a cat café. Next month a bar where you can drink cocktails with owls will be arriving in Soho. Today we’ve discovered that March will also see one of the city’s top steak restaurants serve a brunch for dogs. Yes, London has gone barking mad.

M Grill is holding its first Pedigree Pooch Brunch Party on Saturday 28 March, when dogs will not only be welcomed but will dine for free. £25 a (human) head will get diners a two course meal as well as a gourmet doggy bag for their four-legged friend — one per person.

Apparently the contents of these doggy bags haven’t been confirmed yet, but we’re presuming there are some pretty decent heritage-breed bones knocking around.

As restaurant gimmicks go, it’s one of the more unusual ones we’ve seen. Especially from somewhere as high end as M Grill, which launched towards the end of last year off Threadneedle Street in the City and serves the kind of pricey steaks that would usually be considered strictly for human consumption only. At the top end these include a fillet of Japanese Kobe beef for £150 and a sirloin of Australian Wagyu for £120, while an American fillet comes in at £49.

Diners paying these prices don’t get any games along the way, but the lucky dogs who are brought to dine will also be treated to a canine easter egg hunt, and there’ll be an artist on-hand for those who want ‘paw-traits’.

Given the restaurant has no outdoor space, we’re interested to know what happens when one of the dogs inevitably needs the toilet. “I don’t know what the plan is for that, but I’m sure the team has something in place,” M Grill’s receptionist told us.

She also confirmed that while this is currently the only dog date pencilled in, the intention is to host similar events in the future if it proves popular. And presumably not too messy.

You can read about and book the brunch, which runs from 12-4pm on Saturday 28 March, on M Grill’s website.
