Hepburn Season Comes To BFI Southbank

Hepburn starring alongside Cary Grant in Bringing Up Baby.

The career of Katharine Hepburn, one of Hollywood's most unique and versatile actresses, is celebrated with a BFI Southbank season starting next month. Beginning 1 February, the run features 24 movies starring Hepburn, including that which won her her first Oscar, Morning Glory (screened on 7 February), leopard-laced screwball comedy Bringing Up Baby (11 February), and the peerless The Philadelphia Story (15 February), in which Hepburn bounces her comic skills off Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart.

There's also a season-within-season — with eight of the movies Hepburn made with her long term lover Spencer Tracy. These include State of the Union (27 February), Adam’s Rib (also 27 February) and Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (TBC), which earned Hepburn her second Oscar.

Other screenings liable to get booked up fast include The African Queen (26 February), The Lion in Winter (TBC) and On Golden Pond (TBC).

All films are screened at Belvedere Road, South Bank, SE1 8XT. Booking opens 20 January (13 January for BFI members), and tickets are £11.50 (non member with Gift Aid) and £9.50 (Concession with Gift Aid).
