Spitalfields Music Winter Festival sees out the end of the year with a host of exceptional musical experiences for everyone across the East End.

With some events already sold out — including Musical Rumpus opera for babies, concerts starring Iestyn Davies and Orgelbüchlein at the Tower — you'll need to book quick! We've picked 10 highlights from the programme that will definitely tempt us out of the house on those chilly December days.

Tales from the Ditch: Follow storytellers, East-Enders, historians and musicians through the underground spaces of Shoreditch Town Hall, spinning tales and tunes based on East London's past and present.
5-7 December, various times, tickets £12.

Tower Hamlets Sings: Local young singers perform with choir Ex Cathedra, in a free, family-friendly lunchtime concert at Shoreditch Church.
5 December, 1.30pm, free but booking required.

The Sixteen: Experience the sumptuous harmonies of this fabulous early music choir, singing a diverse programme of songs related to the Christmas mass, including some traditional Christmas carols.
6 December, 7pm, tickets from £5-£35, prebook.

Winter Fayre on the Farm: Children can join Spitalfields Music musicians in an interactive musical workshop at Spitalfields City Farm. And when they've finished music-making, visit the pigs, goats and cows and enjoy the jolly festive market and Winter Fayre.
7 December, 12-4pm, free, just turn up.

Siglo de Oro: Making their festival debut, this renaissance and contemporary choral ensemble tell the traditional Christmas story through songs, spanning from ancient times to the 21st century. The setting is the lovely Shoreditch Church.
9 December, 7pm, tickets from £5-£20, prebook.

Nine Daies Wonder: The (fantastically-named) Society of Strange and Ancient Instruments play dances, songs and instrumental music from the Elizabethan court, towns and countryside on things like the hurdy-gurdy, tabor and violone at Shoreditch Church.
10 December, 7pm, tickets from £5-£25, prebook.

Kwartludium with Scanner: Avant-garde instrumental ensemble Kwartludium collaborate with electronic music musician Scanner to present "part improvised works that respond to visual scores" at Rich Mix. Intriguing.
12 December, 8pm, tickets £15, prebook.

Vast White Stillness: Part installation and part performance, Vast White Stillness combines music, image and theatre to take the audience on a journey through the half-remembered, the not-quite-heard and the just out of reach moments that colour a lifetime.
13-14 December, hourly from 2pm, tickets £12, prebook.

Quatuor Diotima: Catch this bold virtuoso French string quartet performing four radically different works, including the world premiere of Sam Hayden’s newly commissioned Transience, at Shoreditch Church.
14 December, 7pm, tickets £5-£20, prebook

Phantom Voices: Vocal group The Clerks take you on a late night musical journey through seven hauntings, immersing you in sound at the atmospheric Shoreditch Church.
15 December, 9.30pm, tickets £15, prebook.

Folie a Deux: Witness opera in the making with a glass of wine at this Mahogany Opera Group work in progress at Toynbee Studios where "insanity, electricity and love collide".
16 December, 7pm, tickets £10, prebook.
